Golf Club ride 6th Jan 2013 - we need a support car - any offers accepted for the New Year

So where was the team support car with a spare wheel for Danuta as she arrived at the golf club with green slime oozing from a tire?  Luckily, Mike had just presented Stuart with a late Christmas present of an adjustable gas tire refill kit.  This was used to great affect before the group escorted Danuta back to Danuta Towers for a complete wheel change.

A foggy ride

The first ride of the year attracted a couple of new riders, welcome to Daniel and Lucy who joined David Dyer, David Booth, Dan, Magnus (after a long absence!) and myself on a fairly mild but damp and foggy morning. It was quickly decided to do our usual run through Twyford, Sonning and Playhatch to Christmas Common, Stokenchurch, Marlow and home. We started slowly, letting Daniel and Lucy get used to riding in a group, but after Sonning we picked the pace up a bit as we headed up the hill. They kept up well, but we stopped to regroup several times on the way to Stokenchurch.

The David Addaway Tankard

The David Addaway Tankard presented to the club member that has contributed  most to the life of the Club goes this year to Brian Simmonds.

This is for all the work he put in leading the Clock Tower club run for many years together with his continual presence pushing riders off at all our club events and last but not least for his work as MDCC Social Secretary organising our Club Dinner and Prize Presentation.

Well done and thank you Brian for everything you have done for the Club and its members.

2012 Novice Plaque Champion

The winner of this years Novice Plaque Award is Stuart Auckland with a stunning average  speed of 26.09 mph for his fastest 25 mile and 10 mile TT's. This was achieved with a 22:35 for a '10'  and a 58:35 for a '25'. Well done Stuart.

Stuart has also joined the committee at the AGM and is now the club TT secretary.

A Very Cool Looking Stuart Earlier in the Year

Bird hIlls ride 27th Dec 8.30

Mike is looking to do a 2hr ride on Thursday leaving the golf club around 8.30.  Everyone is welcome to join in for a steady ride.  I'll be there but need to drop a cheque off near Aldermaston, so it would be good if we could head off in that direction.

Bird Hills 23th Dec and a steady ride.

So what does easy / steady or hard mean?  Several regulars on the Bird Hills ride recon I don’t know the meaning of words especially the first two words.   More in this in a moment, but first to days steady ride.

Boxing Day Time Trial

So this time of year usually sees the beer/wine/chocolate goodies intake increase with the "I'll burn it off after Christmas" mentality kicking in.

However, with the Boxing Day TT on the calendar and seeing a competitive smile on Andrew's face on Sunday, I'm being good this year (within reason).

The weather is looking OK so far and I've found the smallest/most aerodynamic Reindeer I can find to satisfy the festive spirit/fancy dress requirement.

Social/AGM/Clock tower run report

A grey, windy but mild morning greeted 6 of us at the Clock tower this morning. With the wind coming from the West we thought we would rather go into it on the way out and have it at our backs coming back so we went out to Twyford and up to Playhatch for our fairly usual run up to Stockenchurch through christmas Common and back through Marlow. Somehow it seemed the wind was in our faces or sides all the way around, and it made it hard work.

Christmas social?

Hi

We were having a chat today, and thought it might be nice to get together some time before Xmas. David and Dan have not met many of you who ride with the Birds Hill group, and I haven't seen many of you for ages! And Christmas seems a good excuse to arrange something.

So, we thought it might be nice to meet up on Thursday 13th December in the Pond House on the A4 out of Maidenhead...say 8pm? Anyone up for it?

Its winter...

I am back from Uganda - and it was something of a shock this morning with temperatures at -3C in our back garden! But I wrapped up as much as I could (was late coz I couldnt find my thin second pair of socks....) and luckily there were 3 brave souls waiting at the Clock Tower debating where to go without Gurpal to lead our way! We decided to stick to main roads as much as possible, and not try any steep country roads (phew - 2 weeks off the bike and I am not sure I would have coped with steep country roads!).
