Clock tower run 28th April and this weekend
Submitted by Sarah Davies on 30 April 2013 - 9:12amA cold but bright morning welcomed 7 riders to the Clock tower this week: Dave D, Gurpal, Magnus, me, my brother Ian, Anastasia and new member Michael. Anastasia wanted to try a long hill so we decided to go up Pishill. Starting along the A4, my saddle slipped and I was riding with my knees round my ears, so our first stop was in the Shire Horse car park to sort that out and get Anastasia's speedo to work.
Clock Tower Ride - 21st Apr - amongst the Sportives
Submitted by David Dyer on 21 April 2013 - 5:33pmI was aware that other attractions (including a couple of Sportives in the Chilterns) meant that many regulars wouldn't make the run this morning (although I gather Dan, Dave & Rob staged a Saturday alternative). However the morning sun meant there was a good and different Clock Tower line-up of Mark, Anastasia, Daniel, Steven and I today. Although the sun was out, I wasn't the only one who had seen yesterday's forecast saying Maidenhead would be the coldest place in Britain overnight at 2C and we noticed that the weather uncertainty had led to different decision
Was it really that nice yesterday?
Submitted by Anonymous on 15 April 2013 - 2:18pmA group of 10 strong left Birds Hill yesterday for Pangbourne. Like the Clock Tower group we didn't get very far before one of us punctured (Colin). Thankfully that was the only one and it was good going considering the recent rain.
It was clear wardrobe issues affected some as we had riders dressed for summer and others for winter. Everytime we stopped the latter could be seen taking something off. The Garmin said 20 degrees at one point and there was plenty of sun around - great stuff.
10 Thames Bridges 100km Audax
Submitted by David Dyer on 14 April 2013 - 5:22pm6 of us Dan, David B, Rob, Gurpal, Mark and I enjoyed one of the first warm days of the year today to take part in our local audax. Unfortunately a puncture just one mile into the ride meant the MDCC team were soon behind the rest of the field.
Where is the support car when you need it?
Brian Simmonds
Submitted by Paul Richardson on 10 April 2013 - 9:24pmMost club members will know Brian Simmonds (on the left), either personally or as the man who, together with Malcom, pushes you off on the Thursday evening time trials. Yesterday Brian was taken to hospital with a suspected minor stroke and loss of vision in one eye.
After initial tests he was sent home and, apart from still being blind in his right eye, says he is feeling fine. Obviously there are more tests to be done to get to the bottom of the issue but I'm sure you will join me in wishing Brian a speedy recover. Being a very fit man with a healthy lifestyle, I'm sure it is only a matter of time before he regains his vision and is back in full health.
If members would like to send a personal message to Brian, you can either leave a comment on this article or drop him a line - contact details are here (you will need to be logged in to view them)
Clock Tower Run - Easter 31st March 2013 - Olympians and Samaritans
Submitted by David Dyer on 31 March 2013 - 3:24pmFour of us Dan, Gurpal, John and I negotiated the many rail replacement buses in the Station Car Park to meet up this morning. Gurpal suggested a special magical mystery tour following the route of the Olympic Road Race (no, not a trip from Central London to Box Hill and back, but the route from 1948 which went round through Windsor Great Park 17 times).
What season is it?
Submitted by Sarah Davies on 24 March 2013 - 2:11pmSnow, ice and freezing temperatures - it may be late March, BST may start next week - but no-one seems to have told the weather! The general consensus this morning was that we are getting a tad fed up with this....so only the hardiest idiots..I mean cyclists...turned up this morning - Dan, Rob, David B, Gurpal and me.
