Bird Hills group supporting the club hill climb event

Today’s Bird Hills ride was combined with the club hill climb event. Sarah arrived at the golf club for the first time today along with Dan.  Mike wasn’t feeling well so went home before starting.  Colin and Stuart were also present.  If others turned up, sorry about the lack of a mention as I went straight to the Clock Tower.  Sarah Looked in bright spirts after her first ride with the Bird Hills group back to her usual starting point at the clock tower.

Not quite so fast...

Reading the Bird Hills group write up of Sunday mornings ride, I thought I had better write the Clock Tower version up - as it was somewhat slower. Having said that, we were not hanging around too much...

How quickly can we ride on a sunny Sunday morning.

On what was a gorgeous early Autumn day for riding, 7 turn up at the golf club (Dan, Mark, Matthew, George, Stuart, and myself).  After shorting out the excuses for poor performance during the ride, it was decided to do the standard Pishill route with an extra loop at the end to allow those struggling or with time pressure to peel off.

Hilly 30 Start sheet now available

This Sunday's Hilly 30 Start Sheet is now available here.

Prudential Ride London 100 (actually 86) Results

As I am sure everyone has heard, the remains of Hurricane Bertha meant that yesterday’s Ride London 100 had to be shortened to 86 miles with the removal of Leith Hill and Box Hill.  I think most of us were disappointed to hear the news as we lined up under clear skies at the start.  However whilst making our way through the flooded roads of Surrey in huge downpours we had to agree that it was the right decision.

Well done to everyone from MDCC who completed the ride yesterday:

2014 Thursday 10 Handicap Standings

It's almost the end of the season so I thought that I'd better publish the Thursday 10 handicap standings.

With five events to go it's all to play for this season with Bernard Phillips taking a well deserved lead (58 points). Having started the season trying to break 'evens' (30 minutes) , he managed to do that in style, putting in a 27:48 on the A4. In second place is Time Trial Secretary, Stuart Auckland (52 points), having gone under 22 minutes on no less than six occasions this season.

News from past member David Smith

I've added to last years article on a club '25' 50 years ago some interesting reminiscences from David Smith who was a member from 1962-1963. David is still riding but now lives in Denmark.   http://www.maidenheadcc.org.uk/node/1193

50 Club Championship - every second counts....

An improved forecast and what seemed like still conditions in the car park greeted Andrew, Simon, Jorj and I at the WLCA 50 yesterday.

Many parts of the road had been resurfaced so this and the still conditions suggested some fast times might be achieveable. However out on the road the wind picked up and although it was very fast in parts, it was also tough going in others and it seemed to switch with each lap.

Clock Tower Ride - 13th July

Good to see a couple of new joiners as Mia and Louis (hope I've spelled you both right) joined John, Dan, Taran and I for what turned out to be a longer than usual ride for us.  Initial discussions about a route ended with a request to climb Pishill so we headed off to Henley via Knowl Hill.  Passing the road works along the Fairmile we started off to Pishill (having assured our new riders that although it was a fairly long drag, only the last bit was steep).  Everyone made it ok, although Dan was held back by a dropped chain.
