Dodged the showers today

Simon has written the ride report this week:

Temperatures of up to 28 degrees centigrade, saw a decent turnout at the clocktower of Emmeline, Janette, Simon, Sarah, Taran, prospective member Laurence, Deane, Gurpal, Hewan and Rob I. Andrew made a guest appearance but wasn't planning on sticking with us for long as he had plans to race later on in the day.

A Record turnout!

Twenty six riders turned up this morning at the clock tower

- a record number for any week for the Clock Tower group with some new faces and some people we hadnt seen for years.  And five ladies, which I was really pleased to see.

10 Thames Bridges Audax group ride - Sunday 3rd June

Following our Veldorome trip in April and the sunny ride to the Waterfront Cafe at Benson a couple of weeks ago, our June group ride will be an Audax event.  For those not familiar with them, Audaxes are touring rides, not races, that are run over a wide variety of distances.  Routes are not signposted but you will be given a route sheet and, more frequently now, a gpx track you can follow.

Clock tower ride 12th May

Dave and I cycled 300km around London in the cold and wet doing the London Revolution Ultra yesterday, so we were not out this morning.

So, instead of me waffling on as normal, we have a guest author this week! Over to Hewan...

MDCC go to Benson

What a gorgeous day for a bike ride! 8 of us met at Holyport memorial hall for a trip out to Benson, on a beautifully sunny and warm morning. There were lots of cyclists in the car park getting ready for some sort of road race along the Drift Road - it all looked very professional with motorcycle outriders, lead vehicles etc.

MDCC goes to the Velodrome

Leaving Simon and potential new member Paul at the clock tower to head out on a club run in the cold, grey weather 9 of us made our way to Lee Valley to the Velodrome this morning - a mixture of Bird Hills and Clock Tower riders heading into the unknown for a session on the track! Only Steve had ridden track before, so we were all unsure of what to expect.

Course modification for Thursday 26th April 2018

I've just been informed of road works / traffic lights on the course just after the cross roads at Maidens Green.  We will still run the event as follows:

- Start in the normal place.

- At Maiden Green turn left and go along Winkfield Plain.  A marshal will be on the junction.

- Continue on to the Drift Road and pass through the start and through the finish with the pleasure of going up Hawthorne hill a 2nd time.

Drift Road 10TT sign-on area is moving - H10/10

We are moving the sign-on area to the other side of the road to where the entrance for the Regus building used to be.   This is now a building site entrance for a flats / apartments.  This is about 100m closer to the Windsor end of the Drift Road.  All parking in the entrance to the Crown Estates land is being clamped down on.

Bird Hills Puncturefest - 22 April 2018

With Martin R, Guy and Jon joining usual members Brett, Pete and Mike it was a strong group that headed off from Bird Hills. It had been agreed to head off to Henley as Martin, Guy and Brett were going to have to cut off early, and this was the ideal place to “split”.

A strong pace was set by Jon from the off on roads that were still wet from the previous night’s storms.  However, we didn’t get to Twyford before Jon, who had only got back from a big weeks training in Majorca the night before, punctured.

A beautiful day for a ride

Spring is such a lovely time to be out on the bike, although last nights thunderstorms made it a bit mucky and brought down enough rubbish for me to get a puncture before I even got to the Clock Tower this morning and I missed the draw being made for the club places for the Ride London team:
