Clock tower run 13th May
What a lovely morning! Makes such a difference to see the sunshine for a change, although there was still a bit of a breeze. 6 of us today, Gurpal took charge and we decided to do a big loop - some to the South and some to the North of Maidenhead. So from the clock tower we went through White Waltham to Twyford, 4 of us picking up the pace a bit as we did so. We waited for the others at the lights then trundled over the A4, through Sonning and up towards Sonning Common. This is where my geography fails me a little, but somewhere between there and the top of Pishill we saw a huge group of very serious looking cyclists...head down, working at it....Oh it was the Birds Hill group - plenty of them, and way too fast for us!
Anyway, we thought we would try to take a leaf out of their book and tried some through and off all the way to Stokenchurch - which was pretty hilarious to start with as the line got longer and longer as we couldn't get the pace right! Eventually, though, we settled into it and it was quite good fun! From Stokenchurch we zoomed down to Marlow...to a text from Gurpal up at Lane End with a puncture - he said to go on, but the weather was nice and some of us fancied another go at coming down the hill so we left Dave at the bottom to trundle back to Maidenhead and the other 4 of us (David, Magnus, Mark and myself) cycled back up to the Wycombe airfield where we met up with Gurpal coming down. Then it was back home,
So, a nice long one today - 52 miles at an average speed of 15.7mph.
