Sunday 17th April - carbon wheels required for club rides now!!
On arriving at the golf club Ian was already waiting as usual, looking unsure what he was doing there. Yesterday he took part in the Antelope 3up TT. His comments were that's it's a technical course made worse by the road conditions. At least 3 teams crashed, one before the start of the race leading to the police closing the road, but allowing the racing to continue. After a few minutes a group of 12 riders had assembled. In addition to myself and Ian there was Danuta, Callum complete with new carbon deep section wheels, Simon, Matt, Gary, Mark, Mike, Jonny, Domonic on this new boardman bike and and Brian.
Today Gary had the idea of heading out to Pangbourne, so after a short discussion on routing the group set off at a brisk pace through Shurlock row and on to Hurst. Leaving Hurst, Ian and Brian egged each other on so the pace lift quiet substantially up the rise toward Hurst church. This continued all the way to WInnersh for a short pause at the lights with myself and Mark taking up the pace setting. From the front the group all appear to be together which was a good start.
The group continued on for a right turn at Arborfield Cross and on towards Grazies Hills. At this point I left the group and headed for home needing to be back around 10am.
Anyone else want to continue the story?
Ah yes, as per the title how many of the 12 riders were using deep section carbon wheels. Was it 3 or 4?
