WLC 25m TT, 10th April 2011
A slightly depleted Maidenhead team were up bright and early at Great Missenden; with Ian & Tim missing, I pinned a number on for the middle part of my Sunday morning ride in the country to give the fast boys somebody else to chase down. The warmer weather and the faster road suggested that improvements were on the cards, and most of the team rose to the task.
New member Anna was deceived by the early morning temperature, and it was surely only her heavy but, as it turned out, unnecessary jacket which kept her outside the 20mph bracket. Trimming a healthy 6½ minutes off her previous ride, Sarah deserved more attention than she got, but Sam somewhat stole her thunder by riding through the field to record an impressive 1:1:12, nearly 4 minutes faster than last time. Nigel improved by a similar margin, benefiting from tribars which remained in place but now troubled by the other end of the bike, and he was well short of his target time. In this company, Jon's 1 minute improvement looks like an under-performance. Had he been anywhere else in the world during the week, he might have used jet lag as an excuse, but 8° West doesn't count! Mark never looked happy on the bike today, and trailed in last as the only rider not to register an improvement.
