WLC 10m TT, 6th march 2011
Nine MDCC riders met the timekeeper this morning on a chilly but dry Maidenhead Thicket course, setting off shortly after 9am as the second group among a total entry of 99 riders from 11 local clubs. With long trousers the order of the day, and a noticeable breeze to block progress on the way back from the turn in the dense cold air, fast times were never going to be on the cards. At the head of affairs as first Maidenhead rider to cross the finish line, Peter Weir held top spot in the timings with exactly 23 minutes for almost an hour and a half, before being narrowly pipped to fastest time of the day by Peter Dixon of the Willesden, with 22:58.
Rob Brockwell, Sam Hilton and Ian Brodie, showing good speed from his winter's work, filled the middle order with times in the 25s and 26s, which show the potential to be converted into 25mph rides come summer. Mark Brewer was last to get inside evens, a little over half a minute ahead of Nigel Shurben, with the consistent Gurpal Panesar a further minute back. With a steady 33:33, time trial debutante Sarah Davies put in a decent opening performance, and has caught the time trial bug enough to have a crack at the 25 in a fortnight's time. Bringing up the rear thanks to a late start, Callum Robertson was eventually credited with 46:32. His elapsed time of 27:47 shows promise, Saturday afternoon's tough track session having surely taken the edge off his Sunday morning speed.
