September and October Calendar, 2010

MDCC 10 mile TT Medium Gear Championships Thursday, 2nd September, 6.30 pm start.

This will be held on Thursday, 2nd September on the Shurlock Row course. All riders who wish to enter this event are restricted to a 72" gear.  It is approximately  a gear of  48 * 18   but it will be checked by measuring  on the road.

I give below Andrew Small's information on medium gears.

Hi Peter, these are the rules used in the national Medium Gear league:

The maximum gear allowed is 72", if you ride gears you must have them adjusted so a higher gear cannot be selected, gears will be checked at each event. A 72" gear was traditionally achieved using 48x18, however with modern smaller wheels and tyres a 49x18 is ideal and in some cases (19mm tyres) you can use a 52x19. The only way to be sure of your gear is to measure the distance travelled for one complete pedal revolution, this should be 18ft 10 1/4 inches. Remember if you are using a track bike with a single front brake you must have a lock ring securely fitted to the fixed sprocket.

Andrew.

Final MDCC Track Session, Palmer Park, Saturday 4th September  2pm - 4.30 pm

We are offering the chance for all MDCC members and friends to get experience of riding on the track at Palmer Park Velodrome next Saturday,  4th September, 2 pm - 4.30 pm.  This is a free session being funded by the club.

FOR THE LAST SESSION ON SATURDAY THE MAJORITY OF WORK WILL BE ON ROAD BIKES, MEMBERS CAN STILL BRING TRACK BIKES IF THEY HAVE THEM BUT DO ENSURE YOU HAVE YOUR ROAD/TT BIKE AS WELL.

Our coaches will be providing a variety of activities to suit the bike and the rider.  They will tailor all activities to the experience and interests of the riders. We have a 2.5 hour session booked so can cover many areas. Our 2 previous sessions were greatly enjoyed by all riders including those who have never ridden on the track before. See Sarah Davies comments on our website forum pages, -  'A Great Afternoon Despite The Wind'

There will be eg. group riding on road bikes to warm up, group riding skills, pursuit training on TT bikes, team pursuit/ team time trial training , sprinting,  points races, scratch races, etc.
