MDCC Medium Gear Championships. Thursday 2nd September.
MDCC 10 mile TT Medium Gear Championships Thursday, 2nd September, 6.30 pm start.
On a lovely September evening with almost a full field of riders Andrew Payne won the MDCC medium gear championhips with a time of 25:37. This was despite chest problems which left him coughing well after the event. Sam Hilton took second place finishing in 26:25 and Jorj James was third in 27:12 despite an impact puncture sustained hitting a pothole on Howe Lane. These 3 all win medals with Andrew taking the Tony Deadman Medium Gear Shield for the year.
New MDCC member Robert Shiels did well to come in fourth, 27:53, Nigel Shurben fifth in 28:31 and last but by no means least was Gurpal Panesar in 33:20. A relaxed Gurpal after the event below.
In the MG open to all clubs Paul Redman [ Thames Velo] produced an excellent 24:11 while Simon North [Summit MTB] just beat evens with 29:39. I think Richard Key [Summit MTB] who was again in period costume and on his wonderful restored 1928 machine was also on a medium gear and he scorched round in 28:41. Well done Richard.
We were pleased to have 10 riders from Summit MTB who used it as part of their 10 mile TT competition.
The fastest rider on the night was Chris Stocks [ a3crg/SIS],{ far left} with a terrific 23:04 . Chris and his friends who rode, including Ian Panting { middle}, 24:15 who was fastest MDCC rider on the evening, were on a works outing Chris tells me.
Both Ross Spencer and Dave Hill joined MDCC on the night and we are very pleased to welcome them to the Club.
