MDCC v TVT Interclub '10', Thursday 15th July

MDCC v TVT Interclub '10',  Thursday 15th July

On a grey, blustery evening two incomparable teams gathered to contest  their  first annual interclub '10' mile time trial.  Nineteen  riders chosen from the cream of each club,  guests TVT and  hosts MDCC were ready for this great contest. Indeed it seemed unfair that there should be winners and losers in this tussle and so the teams fought for a winners and runners up plaque.

This wasn't an evening for pb's and most riders struggled to get within a minute of their best times. Pete Weir was the fastest rider on the evening with an exceptional 21:09 but all riders rose to the occasion to produce their best time possible for their club. Les Gardner [ MDCC] was particularly pleased to record a pb for the year.

Unluckiest rider was TVT's Louise Bardsley, their fastest lady who suffered a puncture in the first few mile. Possibly without this bad luck the overall result would have been different but as it was MDCC came out the winners with an overall time for their 19 riders of 8 hours 21 minutes 44 seconds.  Runners-up were TVT with a time of 8 hours 22 minutes 36 seconds. A difference of only 52 seconds.

We  repaired to the old coaching inn, The Horse and Groom at Hare Hatch for refreshments and the award of the plaques with team captains Sharkie Jaggard and Simon Greenland doing the honours. In handing the Winners Plaque to Simon, Sharkie gave Peter and the club a very gracious thanks for organising the event with Simon responding and handing the Runners-up Plaque to Sharkie.

All enjoyed the evening and we hope to run the event again next year  and give TVT the chance to capture the winners plaque. Many thanks to all who rode and to those who helped with the organisation. A special thanks to Paul Harrison of TVT whose excellent idea was the social after the event and who organised the TVT team.
