The Mobility Trust Charity '10'

How our Contributions Help

Looking forward to seeing you this evening, in the meantime here is a brief summary about Jenny – who the donation from the Maidenhead and District Cycling Club helped last year –

Jenny is 56 years old with and has been confined to a wheelchair for many years.  She suffers from chronic rheumatoid arthritis which affects her from the neck down being most severe in her shoulder joints, elbows, back. This has got progressively worse over 21 years.  Mobility Trust provided her last powered wheelchair in 2002 which is now very unreliable and needs replacing.

She lives on her own and is totally dependent on her chair. Jenny is a person who has always worked hard to make the absolute best of her life within the confines of her severe disabilities.  Jenny has a Canine Partner (assistance dog) which makes it essential for her to have a wheelchair.

This year the donation is going to help provide a powered wheelchair for a Newbury chap, indeed the donation pledge completed our fundraising activities and we were actually able to place the order for the chair yesterday so – the order was placed as a direct result of the Maidenhead and District Cycling Club’s donation allowing us to hit our fundraising target.  Here are the details about William -

William lives in Newbury, Berkshire and applied to us for help in obtaining a new powered wheelchair.  We provided William with the wheelchair that he has now in 2005, it has been used every day since delivery to enable William to make his way independently into his local community and take part in family life but is now coming to the end of its useful life and is beyond economical repair.

William suffers from diabetes, kidney disease, hypertension, rheumatoid arthritis, asthma and lumbar spondylosis – all of these conditions severely restrict his ability to mobilise and a replacement wheelchair was needed urgently if William was to continue being able to mobilise independently as well as remaining independent within his family unit and keep up with his 4 young daughters.

We are sure that you and your members/riders this evening will be delighted to read about the two people that you have helped – we would like to thank you all enormously.
