MDCC '10' Mile TT Championships

Pete Weir, Kate Hunt and Andrew Richardson, New MDCC'10'Champions

On a wonderfully warm evening on the Thicket course the ever popular and competitive MDCC Club Championship '10'  saw  25 members giving their all to win one of our Club trophies or medals. In the senior and vets mens' events it was no surprise to see Pete Weir, after his '50' pb last week in the National Championships of 1:53:15, come out on top with a  terrific time of 21:02 to win 'The Lee Myall Trophy'.

The ladies' event was won by Kate Hunt in an excellent 24:51 while lone junior Andrew Richardson, looking remarkably confident of the win at the start of the event, clinched the title in 26:58.

The conditions were excellent for the event although the wind did drop where a rising tail wind back from the turn would have given perfect conditions.

The silver went to Chris Taylor in 22:36  and the  bronze medal was keenly fought for with Julian Fairley coming out on top by 4 seconds in 22:43 from Simon Greenland.  Simon however easily took the vets 'on standard' award with a +6:19. Second was Andrew Payne with + 4:14 and third Ken Powell   with + 3:39. Ken also managed to break 25 minutes for the course for the first time with 24:59.

Kate took the silver Ladies '10' mile TT Cup' with Gervase Foley in second with 28:59 matching partner Chris's second place in the men's event. Last years champion  Linda Regel was unable to compete through illness.

It was good to see so many Club and other club and CTI riders taking part last night with 44 signing on. New MDCC rider Jon Crompton produced a very fast 24:24 for a first ever '10', while Sam Hilton was pleased with his pb of 25:59 breaking 26 minutes for the first time. Most unlucky rider  was new MDCC member Chris Coreless who wrapped up his gear and gear hanger about 10 yards from the start. Chris below looking happier about 30 seconds before his rear mech exploded.

Other notable rides came from MDCC 2nd claim members Paul Todd who at last broke 27 minutes  in 26:54 and Paul Redman clocked another pb with 22:44 which gave him 5th place overall. We were pleased to have Danuta Tinn riding again finishing first lady in 24:15.  Danuta told me she wasn't taking it too seriously, lucky for the men then!

TVT's Alex Scott, 22:48 gave his team mate Sharkie Jaggard a rare beating by 3 seconds for 7th and 8th places. Pete Dixon from the Willesden who won our event 2 weeks ago came in 2nd overall in 21:42 with another pb.  Rohan Battison [Max Gear]  rode for the second time this season improving to 24:54.  She had also  arranged a cycle time trial photo shoot for a magazine which seemed mainly  to involve her and Derek [ the souped-up Morris Minor van she drives].

Many thanks to all who rode and all officials who helped with the smooth running of the event.
