Bird Hills ride -21st June - Gravel and Ladies Tour of Britian

Just a short write up of todays Bird Hills club ride.  We had 7 regulars and 2 new riders dragged along by Matt and Les and 10th who ridden once with this group and a couple of times with the clock tower group.  The general agreement was 'reverse' of a normal route, then round to Stokenchurch / Lane End to watch the ladies Tour of Britain.

We rolled out of the golf club heading to Twyford at a steady pace for around 400m, then Stuart came to the front and seemed to be set on riding at 25mile TT effort.  Between Stuart, Matt, Jon and myself this then continue for the entire ride.  Other points of interest on route:

- Our bike shop manager was again the only person to puncture

- The lanes around Dunsden, Sonning Common and Stock Row were cover in gravel, I assume due to the heavy showers yesterday

- Stuarts new bike appeared to keep shedding parts

- We lost Matt's mate around Stoke Row.  Sorry about this.  Matt did go back to look for you.  We latter did meet up again at Frieth.

-  We saw the ladies race along with a good crowd at the Frieth cross roads

- Pace was too much for me and I left the group from home at the A4 / Twyford / Wargrave roundabout.

-  On leaving the group my average speed was 20.6mph / 33 kph for 50miles

- looking at those who have so far up loaded to Strava, many pr's were done along with numerious top 10 places.

It felt like the hardest if not one of the quickest club rides I've been on, so any one struggling shouldn't feel to bad about it and I trust they'll be back with us again.  No gain without pain.
