Reliability Ride - 10th Feb 2013
At least we didn't get the snow and ice we feared earlier in the week, but otherwise the reliability ride kept up the tradition of being wet (very wet) with some bitingly cold winds. So it was great to see a turnout of 13 riders at Braywick including a prospective new member Matt.
Given the cold and wet conditions we didn't hang around in the car park, setting off fairly promptly at about 9:05. It looked to me as if there were a couple of groups up front, but I stayed at the back riding with Gurpal, Paul and Rob as we made steady progress through familiar roads to Twyford and Winnersh. Fortunately there was little disruption caused by the Wokingham Half Marathon, but it must have been dreadful conditions for some of the slower runners. Past Swallowfield was less familiar so we started to rely on our Garmins. Near Eversley we picked up Magnus who had been dropped by his group, but we were soon back to four as we couldn't keep up with Paul through Finchampstead. We only made a brief stop at the Look Out at Bracknell as by now our waterproofs were not very waterproof. The traffic seemed surprisingly heavy on some routes, so it was a relief to get to traffic free Windsor Great Park. Fortunately the weather also meant we did not have to worry about looking out for loose dogs being walked, although the wind was picking up on the exposed sections as it was through Fifield and we were glad to reach Braywick again after 3 hours 45 mins.
Congratulations to everyone out today, which I think was:
How did everone else get on? Strava indicates Mark suffered a puncture, Dan got round in about 3 hours and Andrew's phone App stopped at Bracknell?
