A chat with multi club TT Champion Jon Elliott - And get well wishes

Unfortunately shortly after doing this interview Jon hit a pothole while out on a ride, and broke his collar bone. The club wish him all the best speedy recovery.

Q: When did you start and what made you start cycling

A social ride in memory of David Booth

A few weeks ago I got some of the saddest news I have ever received. David Booth - who rode with us for many years,  who I rode with midweek every week for quite some time, and who a few of us had been to Sweden with a couple of times to do the Vätternrudern, had taken his own life.  He had been struggling for much of his life with mental health issues and we never knew.   It shook me, as well as shaking many of us who had ridden with him and counted him as a friend.

David Booth social ride - this Sunday 19th May

This Sunday we are holding a more social ride of 26 miles that will leave Braywick car park at 9:00am.

The ride will celebrate the life of David Booth who last rode with us on this route one year ago.  With this week being Mental Health Awareness Week, it also gives us an opportunity to chat with each other rather than race up and down the Chilterns like we usually do on a Sunday.  Details have been emailed to all members.  Anyone is welcome to join us, including friends and family, whether you knew David or not.

Q: When did you start and what made you start cycling

A: I started cycling a couple of years ago purely as a means of commuting. But then I realised I actually quite enjoyed it as I love being outside, pushing myself physically but also it's a great chance to just let my thoughts wander and get some headspace after a busy week!

Q: What sort of riding do you enjoy

Pub Ride Monday 6th May

Meet Hewan - He is all Heart

Q: When did you start and what made you start cycling.

A: I got my first two wheeled bike aged six but had the obligatory 3 wheelers before that. I would say that it was my dad who got me into cycling and I still have the Elswick Stag bicycle that he bought for me as a teenager.

Q: We know you have had some heart issues can you tell us what they were.

Going back to H10/2 A4 for the 30th May and onwards.

On the 30th May we will back to the A4 for our Thursday evening 10tt starting at 19.45.

I've spoken with the works management team and they were very clear that the lights must be gone by 16.30 every evening.

If you are driving out to our TT (Drift Road H10/10) on the 23rd May, please avoid parking on the grass verges in Winkfield Lane.  Last week we had a couple of complaints from residents who cut the verges outside their properties.

Thanks

Andrew Payne
