A sunny summers morning

With another scorching day forecast, we pre planned an earlier start from the Clock Tower today so 15 of us set off from the car park at 0830 whilst it was still vaguely cool.  We used to regularly ride a route up through Twyford and Playhatch to Nettlebed and Christmas Common so thought we would give this a go, and if we split we would meet for coffee at The Barn.

To beat the heat a little we will be starting the clock tower ride at 0830 on the 5th August.... see you there!

The 5th MDCC Box Hill ride

Its hard to believe we have done this ride 5 times now - how time flies - but I think for me today was one of the best Box Hill rides yet!  Of course we are enjoying such an amazing spell of weather, and the 8am start from Birds Hill meant that we enjoyed the nice cool bit of the day as 14 of us set off on the 70 mile round trip to the top of Box Hill and back. Three of those 14 were new members - what a great introduction to our club!

Summer club ride to Box Hill - Sunday 15th July

This Sunday we have our annual club ride to Box Hill and back leaving from the entrance to Bird Hills Golf Club at 8:00am.

An email has been sent to all members with details.  Any queries contact David Dyer.

Revised Drift Road 25tt course for Sunday 1st July - Club 25tt Championship

This year we using a modified course that starts near Wellers Lane at the top of Hawthorne Hill and finishes prior to the last climb along the Drift road.  So this will be a quicker course as you only race up Hawthorne Hill twice instead of the normal 3 times.  Racing starts at 3pm.

The start is at OS ref SU882737 and finish SU893753.  If you enter this into Streetmap.co.uk and select OS ref you'll get the actual locations.  Or email me via the club website and I'll send over an email complete with maps.

Thanks Andrew Payne

A very busy (and varied) weekend of riding

The club's riders have been out and about at all sorts of events over this past weekend:

Clock Tower Ride Report - 10th June 2018

The average turnout for the Sunday morning Clock Tower Ride continues to grow (15 ish today) and, given the range of preferences and abilities, choosing a route to suit all presented something of a challenge.  Fiona, Janette and Emmaline had expressed a preference for a shorter ride at a moderate pace while Deane, Simon, John, et al are all capable of reaching escape velocity.

MDCC go on an Audax

Audax UK is the internationally recognised long-distance cycling association in the UK.  Today a group of 16 from the club (Dave D, Sarah & son Sam, Gurpal, Steve, Mike & friend, Simon G, Simon S, Mark R, Mark W, Rob I, Rob O'K, Hewan, Deane, Gary) ventured out on a wonderfully sunny day to experience one of the organisation's shorter events, the 10 Thames Bridges 110km.

Dodged the showers today

Simon has written the ride report this week:

Temperatures of up to 28 degrees centigrade, saw a decent turnout at the clocktower of Emmeline, Janette, Simon, Sarah, Taran, prospective member Laurence, Deane, Gurpal, Hewan and Rob I. Andrew made a guest appearance but wasn't planning on sticking with us for long as he had plans to race later on in the day.

A Record turnout!

Twenty six riders turned up this morning at the clock tower

- a record number for any week for the Clock Tower group with some new faces and some people we hadnt seen for years.  And five ladies, which I was really pleased to see.
